Dont Get on The Train If You are GenZ..JK (Great Game)

(+1)

it was pretty good, only problem i had that it wasn't fullscreen if I skipped too fast it would break it a little but I had fun!

This game was a great psychological horror adventure. May have spent a BIT too much time on the cookie clicker-esque game though 😂. Wish I had talked to a couple more npcs during my video as well. This game definitely brought back memories of when I traveled by myself for the first time, and yeah, it's unnerving. Excellent work!

i really enjoyed my playthrough of the game. Well done

(+1)

Hi there, loved the game!
I actually using it as a quality refference. I noticed you make terrain textures non-tiled and I wanted to ask how, maybe what method you used? It would be really helpful for my future projects, thanks!

(1 edit)

Hello there!

Thank you so much for the positive reviews and your genuine interest in the development of the project! For this specific game, I used pre-made textures from the "Terrain Sample Asset Pack" available on the Unity Asset Store, as they perfectly matched the aesthetic of the game plot. After sculpting the terrain with brushes using the Terrain Toolbox, here what I have done while texturing to avoid tiling effect:

In the "Paint Terrain" section, where you can assign layers(Layers-> Layer Palette), I added layer for grass textures. Next, I selected it in the layer palette, then accessed the Layer Properties to adjust the Tiling Settings, specifically the Size (X, Y). This adjustment changes the scale of the texture, making it bigger and borders less dense in viewport. For this project, changing the scale from the default of 1 to between 15 and 20 proved effective. And then simply started to paint the terrain with it.

For the finishing touches, I used a combination of different textures—such as grass, sand, and rock—to blend them in certain areas. This approach created a more varied terrain. By blending different textures, I was able to avoid a monotonous landscape that would have resulted from using just a single texture type, ensuring that close inspections by players would still reveal a detailed and cohesive environment.

I believe this was the tutorial I was watching during working on the terrain

I understand this might seem like a straightforward approach, but it made the job done, and I hope it can be of help to you as well!

P.S. If this method hadn't achieved the desired results, my next step would have simply been to search for alternative textures. It's as straightforward as that.

Thanks for such a detailed reply!

Your solution even while being straight forward is still of value to me. I think it'll work really well for this style of games, and I could use it to shorten my time making the terrain in the future.

It is way too interesting to learn about what other creators do different from me.

P.S. Keep up the fm series, I feel like they gonna get way more popularity :)

Hi again, hope my questions don't bother you.

I've been working on the game for about a month now, and I got to the point where I need to make characters. Looking back at your game, I noticed that you have quite a big selection of them. So, I got curious as to how did you make them so easily (seemingly)?

What workflow did you follow, and where did you get face and body/clothes scans? I'm genuinly curious. I have my own guess, but I don't know if it's gonna turn out the same. Regardless, I'd love to know from you personally :)

p.s. I'm also working of a FREE game, and will be posting it here on itch.io around May.

Hello there!
Nice to hear from you again! Well, that was the only point where I used paid assets. I can share a link with you:
https://assetstore.unity.com/?q=3drt%20real%20people&orderBy=1 real people packages from 3DRT,
but at that time, he also had 90% discounts on his website for the same packs:
https://3drt.com/store/characters/humans/
https://3drt.com/store/characters/realpeople-kids-girls.html
https://3drt.com/store/characters/realpeople-seniors.html
https://3drt.com/store/characters/realpeople-females.html
https://3drt.com/store/characters/realpeople-males.html

etc., so I bought them all. I can model, but people are quite hard to design, and they should look appealing in comparison to environmental objects. So, yeah.

They're already UV-edited quite well, so it was easy to edit some default textures (for instance,  to make the stewardess uniform and adjust to female characters model).

If I were doing it now again without buying assets, I would search for some low poly human-dummy models that are already UV-edited and try to make textures in Photoshop, applying some pictures of clothes and body parts I would search on Google (but of course, according to licensing rights).

Sorry if it wasn't much  help.. Anyways, I am looking forward to playing your game. I will be waiting for its release!

(+1)

Thanks again, you've confirmed what I was thinking. I was also thinking of getting/making simple low poly models and texturing them, as it would be the easiest and most straight-forward approach(after buying). I even downloaded Blender and are using it for the first time, haha. I'll see what comes of it.

I'll inform you when I realise the game, thanks for interest!

I think the goal was to emulate a certain Style and type of Game, and it was done perfectly.

Cool little Story, also the Border Patrol confused me a little bit, where everyone was suddenly gone.

For the Story: You've had to have a lot of suspension of disbelief, because it would certainly be very suspicious if a "train attendant" took your bag while you sleep and put something in it, and no one says anything. And the Bag in the toilet is a bit obvious, but still okay, to keep it moving along.

Just as food for thought: maybe let him check your bag, and after that there's the drugs in it? As a kid you'd be trusting if someone from "train security" or something came along and asked you if you travelled alone. He could say, that he'd need to check your bag before we approach the border. And as a thanks comes again later and gives you a Soda from the "staff kitchen", since he heard that you wanted one.

Some Errors:

- Bug: Game got locked up after the waitress brought my food, laptop was still there and food on top of it, and i couldn't interact with anything anymore, and had to restart.

- The time should always be PM, because you are using the train from midday onwards, and the last one (if it is at night) should be something like 11:50 PM.

- Error: The Picture in my messages after the food came is of japanese pancakes, but i got a croissant.

- Error: Any time you use the toilet he says he needs to go back to the seat, before the food arrives. And he doesn't wash his hands ewwwwwww.

- Those aren't ticket numbers but the Flight Number, it should be just one. I don't think every family member would use a different Airplane.

- If you are using a Scroll View in Unity for the SMS-Messages UI. Look for the "Scroll Rect" Component on it and set it's "Movement Type" to "elastic". That way it feels more like a real phone, and the scrolling is not so static.

Great Job, it was very fun to play, and hope there are lots more!

I think the creators story is done well.

You critique about passangers being gone is a weird one, because they probably arrived to their destinations. If you ever rode a train you'd know, if you taking a train to the end destination, the train might be completely empty by the time you're there.

Also, your 'improved' story has way bigger flaw. If a train security asks for the bag, why would they then thank a passanger for doing what passanger supposed to do? I'd be sussed out.
I genenerally liked the story as it was made originally, but I see your point about making it less obvious, though I wouldn't say it's better. Pretty subjective taste thing.

Don't mean to come off rude to you, just want to add counter-opinion to your opinion. Because I liked the game as well! And good job reporting all these bugs.

Buen juego, espero hagas otros c:

I like it, similar to fast to Fathom (its the third game)

(1 edit) (+1)

It really reminds me a lot of games like Fears To Fathom. I even thought it was from the same developer. Still, a great game. Congrats!

(+2)

A great start to a mini-series I hope you continue with. There were some bugs here and there, but I know you'll clean that up. Can not wait to see more of what you do with this series. Good job!

(+1)

What a great game!
(+1)

I got blocked after I flushed the snow pack in the toilet...than I cannot do anything, he's blocking the passage and the door is locked...what am I doing wrong?

(+1)

Hello there,

I'm sorry to hear you're encountering difficulties in the game after dedicating a good amount of time to it. It sounds like there might be some confusion about the next steps, so let me guide you through what to do:

Start playing the game again and press "continue." You should then respawn at the moment where the stewardess approaches you for the second time. No need to replay it again from the beginning.

  1. After encountering the situation you described, make sure to hide in the toilet and lock the door behind you. This is the first crucial step to ensure your safety.
  2. Once you're safely inside, take your time to carefully explore your environment. There are specific items and clues (on cursor) within your reach that are key to helping you save yourself and progress further.

Remember, this part of the game tests your problem-solving skills and ability to interact with the environment under pressure. I'm here to help, and your feedback is invaluable for to improve the play experience.

Thank you for your patience and for playing the game!

Oooooh thanks! I tried to hide myself in the toilet but the imposter just walked past the door and walls as if they weren't there... : (

But I will try again tomorrow

I've prepared a small hint, just in case you encounter a bug.

!SPOILER!

After hiding in the toilet, you'll hear knocking at the door and will have few conversations through the wall with the imposter, then you will have some additional time to figure out how to survive until he beats down the door.

When you closed the door, two clickable objects were activated in the toilet, so you can click on them now to figure out how to survive. If you encounter the imposter going through the door immediately after you hide, or have issues with other objects, please notify me. A message will be enough, but a screenshot would be helpful, or ideally, a video.

Hopefully, this time it will work out! Good luck with beating the game!

I really liked this! And would love to see what more there is. You can definitely see it's F2F inspired, which I LOVE. There was a few bugs I spotted, which I did note at the end of the video. Other than that, for your first game, this was pretty neat!
Here is my video!

(+1)

Great job with this game!
(+1)

NICE NOVEL

(+1)

I liked the atmosphere and the visual/musical component of the game, everything is balanced for such an idea, good work.

The only thing I personally missed was the aggressive-frightening moments, however oppressive atmosphere also played a role, that's why I will definitely look forward to your next works and hope they will be a bit longer to enjoy it!

(+1)

Absolutely amazing game great job

(+1)

A good horror game! Keep it up
